Write to Them
WriteToThem.com is a website that offers a simple and efficient way to contact your MP, MEP, Councillor or Greater London Assembly Member.
You are strongly advice to read the Questions and Answers page on WriteToThem which is available here. It is also worth reading the points made at the top of the Write Your Message page.
WriteToThem is a free service, but it will only work if everyone follows the rules. Two points to note are:-
- You should only write to your representative using your postcode.
- Use your own words. Messages which are copied and pasted will be ignored.
If you do not know your full postcode, you can use the Royal Mail’s online Postcode finder which is available here.
You will need to decide which representative to contact. MP’s deal with some matters, while councillors deal with others for example. You can read more on the WriteToThem.com page Who Should I Write To which is available here. Some general points are made below.
Contact your Member of Parliament
Your Member of Parliament (MP) can help you with immigration issues, benefits, tax issues (not council tax), hospitals and the National Health Service.
Contact your local councillor.
There are many types of local authority in the United Kingdom with different levels of responsibility. In general local councillors can help with:-
- council housing
- planning
- rubbish collection
- the local environment,
- the administration of elections.
There will be more than one councillor covering your local ward.
Other representatives
Besides your MP and Local Councillors there are also Members of the London Assembly and Members of the European Parliament. Use the home page at WriteToThem.com to find these representatives.
